Quilt patterns for one jelly roll

A standard jelly roll usually contains 40–42 coordinated strips. The right pattern lets you skip most cutting and move quickly into sewing, making it one of the least intimidating ways to start a quilt.

Common questions

What size quilt does one jelly roll make?

A single standard roll commonly makes a lap or throw top around 50 × 64 inches, depending on the design and whether background fabric is added.

Do I need extra fabric?

Yes for batting, backing, and binding. Some patterns also require background or border yardage.

Is a jelly roll quilt good for beginners?

Usually. Precut strips remove much of the measuring and cutting, so you can focus on a consistent quarter-inch seam.
